Prof. Dr. Yuki Asano, Professor of Machine Learning at the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN), has been elected to the Young Academy. His appointment makes him part of an interdisciplinary network of 50 outstanding researchers and artists in Germany for the next five years.

“Being elected is a great honor for me. At the same time, it reflects my commitment to the values of the Young Academy. In artificial intelligence research, both interdisciplinary exchange and deep subject expertise are essential today. That is why I see many parallels between UTN and the Young Academy, and I look forward to building on those connections,” says Asano.

During their five-year membership, new members can initiate interdisciplinary research projects and working groups or contribute to existing activities. The Young Academy’s 50 members collaborate across disciplines and benefit from a growing network of outstanding researchers and artists. Together, they develop initiatives at the intersection of science, the arts, society, and public policy, while helping shape discussions on future-focused topics such as artificial intelligence, climate change, and science policy.

The first meeting in Berlin already left a strong impression on the UTN researcher: “I immediately felt at home during the welcome event in Berlin, surrounded by highly motivated people who are deeply passionate about their work. That drive is what defines the Young Academy. I’m excited to work with the other members over the coming years and make a meaningful contribution together.”

The ten new members of the 2026 cohort were selected by the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina, one of the two supporting academies of the Young Academy. Since its founding in 2000, the Young Academy has brought together outstanding early-career researchers and artists, fostered interdisciplinary exchange, and generated new ideas at the interface of science, society, and public policy.
