Research Services supports UTN researchers in planning and carrying out externally funded research projects – from developing an initial idea and preparing a proposal and project implementation to successfully completing a funded project.

Our support is tailored to each researcher’s individual academic development. We take into account their research field, career stage, previous experience, and goals to identify the right next steps for their research and external funding strategy.

How We Support Researchers

We support researchers throughout all phases of an externally funded project.
The following areas show how we can assist both before and after funding is awarded.

Initial Guidance and Funding Strategy

We help identify suitable funding opportunities at the regional, national, and international levels, taking relevant deadlines, requirements, and funding conditions into account. Together, we determine which opportunities best align with the project idea, career stage, and the researcher’s broader academic development.

During Proposal Development

We support researchers throughout the proposal development process and help coordinate research-related, administrative, financial, and legal questions with the appropriate teams at UTN.

Project Implementation

Once funding has been awarded, we support the transition from proposal to project implementation and assist with questions that arise throughout the project. We work closely with the relevant teams at UTN to help ensure smooth coordination.

Researchers joining UTN with ongoing or planned externally funded projects are encouraged to contact us as early as possible, ideally before their start date. This allows us to address questions related to funding, legal requirements, responsibilities, and timelines in advance.

Internal Research Initiatives at UTN

Through internal programs and formats, we help foster new research ideas and collaboration across disciplinary boundaries. These include university-wide interdisciplinary formats such as AgileTeams@UTN, as well as other UTN research initiatives.

Strategic Research Collaborations

We support researchers in establishing academic collaborations and connect them with partners from academia, industry, and other sectors of society. Together with the Transfer Service Team, we identify suitable collaboration partners and support the initiation and development of joint projects, such as Bayerische KI-Basismodell-Initiative and ELLIS Franconia.
