As an international and interdisciplinary institution, we are committed to transforming our university into a hub of innovation, fostering excellence in learning, research, and teaching. In pursuit of this vision, we are dedicated to cultivating a culture of respect, actively advancing core principles like Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) across all facets of our operation.
DEI objectives for 2030
WOMEN IN THE
Activities until 2025
To foster a culture of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI) within UTN, UTN has adopted a comprehensive DEI Action Plan. This visionary plan spans a two-year horizon and lays the groundwork for crafting a detailed strategy. This strategy, to be crafted by a dedicated DEI project group commencing in the autumn of 2023, will be pivotal in shaping our DEI initiatives. The leadership of this project group will oversee and orchestrate all subsequent DEI activities, including regular audits. Furthermore, UTN has enlisted the support of esteemed external experts who will closely accompany the step-by-step execution of these initiatives, as an integral component of the DEI audit conducted in collaboration with the Stifterverband.
Equality Commissioner for Women
in Science and Arts
Presently, the role is being temporarily fulfilled by Professor Dr. Isa Jahnke (Founding Vice President for Academic and International Affairs) and Deputy Stephanie Grasser (Finance and Human Resources Unit). An election is planned for end of 2023/beginning of 2024.
The research award is designed to advance gender equality in fields where women remain underrepresented. It recognizes female UTN professors who have devised compelling strategies to champion Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, and where the proposed measures will be implemented and funded centrally across the entire university. Additionally, recipients of the award are provided with flexible funding to strengthen their academic endeavors.
Lecture Series: Women in AI and Robotics
Emerging female junior group leaders or junior professors showcase the pivotal milestones in their academic journeys, serving as prominent role models for other women to draw inspiration from.
Strengthening of Gender
and Diversity Competences
UTN is committed to crafting specialized events and training programs that are tailor-made for Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion (DEI). These initiatives aim to enhance gender sensitivity, empower individuals, and foster a more diverse and inclusive environment.
Family and Dual Career Services
UTN provides assistance to recently appointed professors and their families in locating childcare services and pursuing ongoing educational opportunities. Furthermore, UTN is an active participant in the Dual Career Network Northern Bavaria (DCNN), offering support to the partners of newly appointed professors as they seek suitable employment opportunities within the region.
The Welcome Center extends its support beyond academic matters, assisting with entry and exit formalities, among other non-academic concerns. Additionally, it orchestrates events and excursions to foster intercultural understanding and facilitate meaningful exchanges.
We prioritize accessibility from the very beginning, encompassing both the construction of our campus facilities and the development of our digital resources.
