We welcome the announcements made by Minister-President of Bavaria Dr. Markus Söder: “With the foundation of the University of Technology Nuremberg, Bavaria ventures into new territory with the creation of a new prototype university culture. Dr. Markus Söder, MdL (Member of the State Parliament), in his government statement on December 5, 2023, to further strengthen key technologies and, in particular, artificial intelligence (AI) within, for and originating from Bavaria.
The emphasis on AI represents a steadfast evolution of the initial concept that we have been pursuing since the university was founded: At UTN, we integrate artificial intelligence with diverse fields of knowledge, guided by the principles of interdisciplinarity, digitality, internationality and sustainability. Through this approach, we actively engage in addressing the significant social challenges of the future. The comprehensive framework of the new university, designed by the structural commission, is geared towards continuous adaptation to technological advancements, including AI. This alignment has now been officially implemented through the Bavarian Minister-President’s groundbreaking government declaration.
The choice to establish UTN as a pioneering university, with a distinct emphasis on artificial intelligence unparalleled by any other university, is poised to generate technological breakthroughs and innovative interconnected solutions for education, society, and the environment. This decision, opens up fresh prospects in research, teaching, and knowledge transfer, thereby fostering the enduring growth of Nuremberg as a hub for science, bolstering the metropolitan region and the Free State of Bavaria.
