With the aim of fostering closer collaboration among Bavarian research groups in the field of mathematical optimization and promoting exchange, the “Friday@Noon Bavarian Optimization Workshop” was hosted at the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) on May 23, 2025. The event was organized by UTN’s three professors in the field of mathematics and optimization – Prof. Dr. Alexander Martin, Prof. Dr. Johannes Thürauf, and Prof. Dr. Christoph Hertrich.

Around 45 participants from seven universities – including FAU, TUM, and the universities of Würzburg, Augsburg, Bayreuth, and Passau – presented cutting-edge research. The program featured two high-profile keynotes: Prof. Dr. Marie Schmidt (University of Würzburg) addressed optimization in public transportation, while Dr. Andrian Uihlein (FAU) spoke about topology optimization under uncertainty. The workshop also included technical talks and pitch sessions on current topics such as neural networks, integer programming, and robust adversarial approaches.

The event highlighted UTN’s role as an active hub within the Bavarian research community, offering a platform for dialogue, new collaborations, and practical insights for research and teaching.
