The campus of the University of Technology (UTN) continues to take shape: Together with Goldbeck Ost GmbH, UTN has signed the total contractor agreement for the new construction of the ‘Learning Hub’. This marks the start of the construction phase for a building that will play a central role in UTN’s teaching activities. The new building is scheduled to open in the winter semester of 2027/28 and will offer students and teachers modern spaces for learning, teaching and exchange.

“Today we are marking the starting point for the Learning Hub, which will be the heart of teaching and student life on campus,” says Dr. Michael Fraas, Vice President for Administration of UTN. “We are delighted to have found a partner in the Goldbeck Group that stands for systematic, high-quality construction and guarantees adherence to deadlines, cost transparency and sustainability with industrially prefabricated building elements and precise construction organisation.”
The Learning Hub will be the first building constructed by UTN as the building owner. As additional space will be required for the first bachelor’s degree programme in AI starting in the 2027/28 winter semester, UTN itself will take responsibility for this project rather than the State Building Authority.
Modern learning spaces for the campus
The Learning Hub’s 3,700 square metres of floor space will be used to create numerous new learning and meeting spaces across five floors: active learning classrooms, group work rooms, open communication zones, a library learning center and a cafeteria. These facilities will be complemented by flexible, informal learning areas. The building will have a total capacity of up to 1,100 people.
The Learning Hub will be certified according to the BNB Silver standard, focusing not only on modern uses but also on sustainable construction. It is being built in the southern part of the campus on Dr.-Luise-Herzberg-Straße and connects to the Cube One building and the modular building, which has been made available to Technische Hochschule Nürnberg Georg Simon Ohm.
Lars Sadowski, branch manager of Goldbeck’s National School Buildings branch, is convinced of the joint project: “We are very pleased about the trust that UTN has placed in us. Our goal is to construct a building that sets standards in architecture and functionality. Together with UTN, we will complete the construction of the Learning Hub on schedule and to a high standard of quality.”

Campus development: forward-looking, open and modern
Over the next few years, the Learning Hub will become the central location for teaching, exchange and student life on the UTN campus. “While the founding buildings will be constructed in the north by around 2030, we are already taking an important step for teaching and student life with the Learning Hub in the south of the campus. It is exemplary for the further development of the campus – future-oriented, open and modern,” emphasises Prof. Dr. Michael Huth, founding president of UTN.
The University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN), founded in 2021, is the first newly established public university in Bavaria since 1978. The UTN is a living laboratory building a university for the age of AI and the rapidly advancing changes in technology, business and society. The UTN strives to become a strong regional force in research, teaching and transfer and an internationally leading university of the 21st century with regional roots and a global outlook.
The 37-hectare, sustainable UTN campus will form the center of the new Lichtenreuth district in Nuremberg, close to the historic city center. Around 6,000 students, 200 professors and at least 2,000 employees will study and work there. Study programs will integrate aspects of technology, liberal arts, social sciences and natural sciences to ideally prepare students for the interdisciplinary requirements of the new world of work.
