NUEDIGITAL: Robotics in the Era of Foundation Models
Date: 1. July 2025Time: 16:00 – 17:00Location: Department Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence (Ulmenstraße 52i, 90443 Nuremberg)
AI is everywhere — reshaping how we write, what we see, and the information we consume. From language to imagery, recent advances in artificial intelligence are revolutionizing every corner of our lives, and robotics is no exception. Foundation models, with their powerful capabilities in perception, reasoning, and control, are setting the stage for a new era of intelligent robotic systems.
Join us for a deep dive into the future of AI and robotics at UTN and get exclusive insights into cutting-edge research from the University of Technology Nuremberg. The event kicks off with a keynote by Prof. Josif Grabocka, UTN’s Professor of Machine Learning, who will give an introduction into generative AI and foundation models. Following the keynote, UTN researchers will present a series of spotlight talks, showcasing their latest innovative research on foundation models in robotics:
- Tobias Jülg (Machine Intelligence Lab) will talk about how we can teach AI models to operate robotic arms in changing environments.
- Débora Oliveira (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab) will talk about how to generate meaningful and safe trajectories for mobile robots using only images as input.
- Yannik Blei (Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab) will talk about his innovative solution for search and rescue missions using natural language descriptions of missing people and drones to search the area.
- Nisarga Nilavadi (Multi-Robot Systems Satellite Lab) will present on how multiple robots can transport any object without scene priors using vision language models.
Of course, you will have the opportunity to ask questions after each talk.
We will meet at UTN’s temporary office building in Ulmenstrasse, the current hub of UTN’s pioneering research.
The event will be moderated by Dr. Tanja Kaiser (Multi-Robot Systems Satellite Lab), who will lead you through the program.
