UTN will celebrate its fifth anniversary in 2026. To mark the start of the anniversary year, founding president Prof. Dr. Michael Huth and Nuremberg’s mayor Marcus König cut a birthday cake on Friday.

The opening event for the anniversary year took place in the UTN Science Lounge in the former Kaufhof department store in downtown Nuremberg. “With this gesture, we are launching a special year—one in which we will both look back on what we have achieved so far and take many important steps toward expanding UTN and building a successful future,” said Prof. Dr. Michael Huth in his welcome remarks, before cutting the cake together with Mayor Marcus König, Dr. Andrea Heilmaier, Head of the Department for Science and Economic Affairs, and UTN Chancellor Dr. Michael Fraas.

Bavarian Minister-President Dr. Markus Söder also sent his best wishes: “Happy Birthday, UTN! With the University of Technology Nuremberg, we are shaping Bavaria’s leap into the future. UTN is a beacon for research made in Nuremberg and, as Germany’s first university, is fully focused on AI. This is historic for Franconia and Bavaria: For the first time in more than 40 years, we have founded a new university. Overall, we are planning to expand to up to 6,000 students and 200 professorships. With the Hightech Agenda Bavaria, we are investing in science and research across the Free State. Altogether, we are investing around €7 billion. All the best going forward! Live long and prosper!”

Nuremberg’s mayor looked back proudly on UTN’s first five years and ahead with optimism: “The first five years of UTN’s existence have already shown just how right and forward-looking the decision was to found and establish UTN in Nuremberg as a city of science. Here downtown, on its new campus in Lichtenreuth, and at its location in the Nordostpark, UTN makes top-level science tangible and accessible. We look forward to everything that still lies ahead on our shared path.”
