Students and employees of the University of Technology Nuremberg (UTN) can now use VAG_Rad bikes for their daily commute.

The establishment of a VAG_Rad bike station on Dr.-Luise-Herzberg-Straße fulfils a wish for many. “It takes just under ten minutes to walk to the nearest underground station, Bauernfeindstraße. It’s quicker with a VAG_Rad and will certainly encourage even more users to switch to environmentally friendly and cost-effective means of transport,” says VAG board spokesman Tim Dahlmann-Resing.

Central location of the VAG_Rad bike station

Just under a year ago, in October 2024, the first UTN building was opened on the 37-hectare campus site in the new Lichtenreuth district. The sustainably designed building, named Cube One, offers space for around 120 employees. Preparations are currently underway for the start of construction on six further buildings, the first of which is due to open in 2027, with the others due to open from 2029.

The new bicycle station is centrally located between Cube One and the Health Sciences building used by Technische Hochschule Nürnberg.

Concept of a sustainable campus

“The VAG_Rad service fits perfectly into the mobility concept of the new UTN campus, which focuses on sustainability and a good infrastructure for cycling. We are very happy about the bike station and are confident that it will be used by staff and students,” says UTN Founding President Prof. Michael Huth.

When completed, around 6,000 young people will study on the urban campus, which is connected to the surrounding neighbourhoods.
