The tenth Bavarian university has been established as of January 1st, 2021 – Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Bernd Sibler: “Considerable Upgrade for the Academic Landscape of Bavaria”

MUNICH. The Technical University of Nuremberg has been founded. With the latest addition, there are now ten state-run universities in Bavaria. Minister-President of Bavaria Dr. Markus Söder: “This is a minor sensation. No new universities are being founded anywhere else in Germany. This will give fresh impetus to the city of Nuremberg and the whole region. It will add emphasis in the international competition for the best and brightest.” For Bavaria’s Minister of Science, Bernd Sibler, “this is a considerable upgrade for the academic landscape of Bavaria”. He emphasized that “the University of Technology Nuremberg is innovative and will leave its mark on a national scale. Bavaria will enter new territory with this university, which will serve as a role model for the whole of Germany in terms of knowledge transfer and research. With its special profile, it will be a beacon for the metropolitan area Nürnberg-Erlangen-Fürth and attract male and female students and scientists from Germany and abroad. I am proud and overjoyed that the University of Technology Nuremberg can now gradually grow and enrich the academic landscape of Bavaria.” The university will start off in their temporary premises in Ulmenstraße which will provide the founding team headed by the first Kanzler, Dr. Markus Zanner, the ideal environment for development in the first few years. First online offers will still be available this year.

More information on the further establishment of the University of Technology Nuremberg can be accessed under the website of the University of Technology Nuremberg (www.utn.de) As of January 1st, 2021, current job offerings will be published there.

International, interdisciplinary and digital

As the first university in Bavaria, the University of Technology Nuremberg will mainly offer courses of study in English. The overall approach, both regarding teaching and administration – will be international, interdisciplinary and digital. Faculties are replaced by departments. It will be closely linked to the regional landscape of science and economy. As a campus university in urban surroundings, it combines living, research and accommodation on the campus on Brunecker Straße in the center of Nuremberg. “At the University of Technology Nuremberg, we combine digital and technological progress with the current challenges faced by society. The new foundation makes it possible to thoroughly test a variety of innovative elements which might eventually also shape our existing universities. This could give valuable impulses to the whole academic landscape of Bavaria”, according to Mr. Sibler.
